Clay is the essence of the earth. It lends itself well to texture and design. It is from the earth’s fluidity that I find my inspiration. Using coils and slabs, I construct my pieces, mostly vessels and bowls or platters. I use raised texture and scraffito designs to give life and substance to the power of the earth through clay. My pieces lend themselves well to smoke or raku finishes. These processes enhance the natural feel of the pots.

The vessels’ shapes are more an expression of the aesthetic rather than their function or purpose. They portray the power of the earth with its’ unpredictable lines – hills, crevices and valleys. Small rivers, overlapping mounds and delicate eruptions are witnesses to the natural beauty of our landscape. I intend my pieces to be displayed as a testament to the earth and its natural connection to man’s creative expression.
