Since 1961, piecing and appliqué along with other techniques have allowed me to add color and texture to my life. Quilting is what fills in all those little blank spots in my life. You know, the time while you’re waiting for the potatoes to cook or the promised telephone call from one of our kids. My house overflows with finished quilts, traditional patterns, and fabric. I truly love the traditional quilts and my head spins with new ideas. People ask how I can stand it to spend so much time quilting. It keeps me sane. It defines me. After 300 finished works, I stopped keeping records.
My first blue ribbon was at the Harford Fair, followed by Bloomsburg Fair and the State Farm Show in Harrisburg and many local quilt shows. By request, I taught classes in Montrose for the Home Extension program, the Montrose Library and Old Mill Village in New Milford. The first five issues of Quilting Today featured my class work and a quilt pattern was later published.
I enjoy finding antique quilt tops and finishing them. I feel I am honoring the maker’s wish and keeping the tradition of quilting alive. |
